Photoshop exercise

Phil gave us a quick Photoshop exercise to help free up our drawing. This is a really good way of getting thumbnails gives you a lot of ideas you would never come up with any other way and also produces a lot of work in a short amount of time.

After we had done the panels we had to chose one and work into it for 10 minutes. Below is my 10 minute concept art.
I think for my next project I will work my thumbnails like this, it's the best way, would have been good to start my projects like this from the beginning but it takes a while to break out of certain habits.

Making tiles and other effects

In Maya when your texturing a scene you sometimes need a pattern like a brick wall or wooden floor so in photshop you have to make it so that when you repeat a square of bricks they fit together seemlesly. Below is my original image I started with, the brick pattern I made and then the pattern repeted. There are a few mistakes with it but as my first attemp I think it's pretty good.

My brick pattern repeated
We also had to try and create a weathered sign using layers and layer masks, below is my attempt and after having a bit of trouble with it in the begining managed to do it in the end.

Toolkit: Photoshop

Just doing a really quick thumbnail in photoshop, I don't really like it but..it's a thumbnail and trying to figure out how to use photoshop. For me thumbnails take so much longer in photoshop but thats probably because i still don't really know how to use the program and all the nifty short cuts and how to effectively do a simple drawing in photoshop.

Phil showed me how to create a brush that makes it quick and easy to add all the detail Ill need in the background..makes life so much easier, and this is a thumbnail of me playing around with the brush. again not the best of thumbnails but it was fun playing around with the brush and the background is what I wanted to see not really the foreground.

Photoshop Toolkit: perspective

We were playing around with perspective and how you can pull images into perspective and i decided to do something a little trippy.

Thumbnail
This is just a quick thumbnail for my Concept 2 just looking at the perspective of my image, I really need to start woking out how I want the church to look because at the moment I'm just blocking out a basic castle shape.
